Time Travel Tuesday Vol 4
Another Time Travel Tuesday and a chance to look back on what I did on placement. It feels as though it was a long time ago now.
Today I am going to talk about behaviour management, I shall focus on one child who I am going to call Jake.
From the start of my placement it was evident that Jake had no respect for the class rules or the Teachers. This affected his work as he would be distracted and fidgety in the carpet and unable to complete any work without adult supervision. I have to be honest at first, I struggled as I felt as though I spent all my time saying his name or moving him on the carpet and then he took a lot of my time during activities.
After some reflection and research, I decided that I had to gain Jakes respect, I got to know Jake and looked into the things he was interested in and he started to come and talk to me more often. Once this mutual respect was established, I was able to talk to him before class about his behaviour and using lots of praise I was able to get him engaged in the lessons and wanting to learn. There were still times that I had to speak to him about his behaviour but he was no longer as disruptive in class.
