Throwback Thursday Vol 2
Its Thursday again and it is time to look back on what I did during placement.
From the beginning of placement my mentor was impressed with how well I adapted my lessons based on pervious lessons and the formative assessment that took place to enable to move the children on.
However, I was not confident in assessing the children formally and recording it to be able to track the children’s progress. Therefore, this became a target of mine to use relevant data to monitor pupils progress. As well as ensuring I was giving the children regular feedback both orally and through marking.
After a professional discussion with my mentor I then worked hard on ensuring my feedback to the children was allowing them to make progress. So, I put both their maths and English targets on display where both me and the children could refer to them. If the children then showed their targets they could earn an elephant for remembering. Once they mastered this they could come up with a new target with me. This also helped when marking as I was able to record if the children were showing evidence of their targets. I was also ensuring that I was able to see and give every child feedback during a lesson.
To help with my confidence when assessing where the children are I took my time and I looked at the assessment grids carefully and really understood each stage. Then when it came to filling out the children’s progress I was able to do this with ease.
Overall I believe that I have worked hard in this area to improve my confidence and knowledge of assessment. This will still be a target for me but now I know how I can ensure through assessment that the children are making progress.
