Time Travel Tuesday Vol 3
Here is my third Time Travel Tuesday where I will be looking back on something I did during my final placement. It feels weird that the children are back at school and I have not gone back with them as well.
Today I am looking at the display that we created as a class. It was part of our geography topic all the work we completed in geography contributed to the display that was created. From the beginning of the topic I told the children what we would be working towards. However, I gave the children a lot of choice in what they wanted to look at as well as what they wanted to put on the display.
For homework I asked the children to bring in photos of places they have been in the UK. Using these pictures, the children used maps and the laptops to find where on the map their picture should go. By the end of the lesson the children had created a map full of all the places they had been, this activity allowed the children to use their geographical skills as well as give them an understanding of where these places are in relation to use.
The children also did a lot of research into the four capital cities within the UK. Using this research, the children were able to write a postcard from the place they visited. The children worked really hard to use the skills they learnt within English in their Geography work. Some of the children’s work went up on display.
When the display was finished the children felt as though they had ownership over it, and they children were then sharing what they had done with other children in school and were excited to show of their work and tell everyone what they had learnt.
