Phonics Fun
During the summer holidays I spent a lot of time looking after my cousins Lucy, who is 6 and Amelia, who is 2. Lucy has now started Year 2 she is the younger half of the year group and she possibliy is on the dyslexic spectrum. Therefore, I worked with Lucy on her Maths and her English then she didn't fall behind. We did lots of games so then Lucy didn't feel as though she was doing work.
An example, of this is when we practiced her phonics sounds. We cut them out on peices of paper and put them on the floor I said the phonic sound and Lucy had to find the correct one, we kept moving them around to make it harder. Then, I would run to the diffrent sounds and Lucy would have to say them to me. She really enjoyed this and so did Amelia too, she thought it was a running game.
After our game we practiced writing words with the sounds making up nonsence words as well as real ones.

For homework Lucy was given some words she had to write and then practice blending. She had be looking at split graphemes, such as ie, oe, ae, ue and ee sounds. As it was a nice day I thought it would be fun to do it outside using chalk. I demonstated what to do with the word prize, I wrote the word and spelt it out putting the dots underneath. Then we work together and Lucy did really well.
