Time Travel Tuesday Vol 2

This weeks time travel Tuesday I will be looking back on the Maths Club that I ran whilst on placement.

After February half term I started a Maths Club for KS2 children I had 20 children in the club ranging from year 3 to 6. The first week the children had to be detective and they had to discover who was the murder of Mr Dipentagram. The children were given clues and each clue ruled out a suspect, the children worked in mixed ability groups to work out the maths questions. The children really enjoyed this type of maths work.

The second week the children completed a treasure hunt finding clues around the school, once again all the children took part in the maths questions and really enjoyed this active maths session. The next week we looked at doing magic tricks using maths, this was a really fun way of presenting maths the children even wanted to take to tricks home to try on their family.

Our last week the children were able to play board games and have fun with maths. I had sent a letter out asking parents if the children could bring in board games from home and the children really enjoyed sharing their games with the other children.

Running a club was very beneficial to me as I was about to work with the older children in school as well as gain the experience of running my own club, I will definitely take these skills and use them when I am in school.
