Weekend Fun with Family

This weekend I was able to spend some time with my Mum, Dad, Andy and Cousins. We were baby sitting them on Saturday night. I always enjoy looking after the girls they are in Year 2 and 3 and as they have grown up I have always looked helping them to develop.

This weekend I was given the opportunity to help my youngest cousin to prepare for her Sats this week. She really struggles with fractions and was getting upset about not being unable to do them on her tests. So I decided to help her but in a fun way.

We started by chalking on the yard, which as you can imagine not not please my mum. I wanted to know how much my cousin already knew so I asked her to draw my a pizza and then asked her to cut it in half and then quarters she was able to do this with ease. I proceed to ask her to write this in fractions she was able to do this with my support. When tea came we repeated this activity with a real pizza which she cut up.

After our tea we were splitting up sweets between us all, and to do so I asked her many questions about how we could divide up the sweets.

The next morning we did some My Maths on fractions and she was able to get the answers right without any support. This shows me that the hands on activities we did together enabled her to remember and understand fractions. She was able to make great progress and also had a lot of fun.

Our weekend was not all maths it was time to spend with my family having fun and enjoying the sun.
